March family get together

We had a great time at Mary’s house at Patterson Lakes on Sunday 25th March. Mary is lucky enough to be right on the water and has fabulous views from her big windows. She and Rick had the BBQ ready to go but we ended up eating inside as the weather was a little bit on the cool side. Here’s a picture of Judi, Renato, Paul and Lisa cooking at the BBQ. It was Judi and Renato’s birthdays the previous week and Elise’s 16th birthday the following week so it was also good opportunity to wish them all “Happy Birthday”.

Graham Collins

(Graham Collins is the first and only son of Con Collins who is the Ground Zero man for this website. Graham Collins Family)

Graham

Graham has decided to retire this year – hopefully by the end of the financial year. He has plans to do more work at the gym and get fit enough to go surfing with Rick.

Wade

yeah i bought a new car. im wrapped with it! no pictures of it on the computer yet. its a holden VS station wagon. 1996. navy blue, tinted windows, mag wheels, looks really nice. only negative is that its clocked up
a few km's so far, but lets hope its got plenty more to come!

as for skydiving, i cant recommend it highly enough. the biggest adrenalin rush you will ever have! easily the best thing i've done so far in my life.

Still looking for work, been close on a couple of jobs but got unlucky and missed them, still waiting to hear on some others, but still unemployed! I'm sure I'll get something soon, I'm being a little fussy and not just going for anything so I'm prepared to wait a bit longer.

Noosa was great, we stayed in a huge place right on the river, it was very luxurious and spent our days swimming, going to the beach, and drinking. We had a day at Fraser Island also which was good.

Kate is dong well. She’s still in Aus and we have no plans for the rest of this year to travel anywhere else, we're just trying to clear our debts and save some money. She started work last Monday as an Accountant so she's very happy.

I injured my hamstring a week ago so I've been hobbling around since then but it's starting to heal nicely.

Darcy

Nothing too exciting is going on at the moment. I started my course, Bachelor Of Commerce at Deakin University in Burwood a month or two ago. It has been pretty cruisey to date but my first assignments are just around the corner.
I also played in my first senior match for Knox Falcons on the weekend in a practice match. I was pretty pleased with how I played so hopefully I hold my spot for next week’s game.
Anyway, besides uni and football, I have just been working with Dad once a week and going out with my mates a couple of nights a week.

The Gough Family

Mary Gough is the 3rd girl in the Con and Bridget Collins Family. She is married to Chris Gough. Go to Gough Family page.

Unfortunately the Gough's usual correspondent, Alex, is currently on school camp in Central Australia. That means I will do our report so without Alex's writing flair our lives may seem a bit boring to some.

Since our last news Max has started at Swinburne Tafe in Hawthorn and is studying International Business. He has settled in well and has made some interesting new friends. He has also started working part time at his dad's work ATA Distributors, in the warehouse. While he is on a roll he is finally putting some effort into getting his licence, so beware when you are out on the roads.

Alex is doing VCE Theatre Studies, and the production they are working on as part of their assessment is McBeth. Alex has two minor parts, but has also put in for costume designer. This is quite a big task which needs to be finished in a short amount of time and a small budget. She also auditioned for the school musical Beauty and The Beast, even though I think Alex has a nice singing voice it was not good enough for her to get a part. Alex left for Central Aust this morning (27/3) with school and returns on 4 April. They are camping and going to Cooper Pedy, Kings Canyon, Uluru and Alice Springs. I'll leave it up to her to tell you all about it in the next newsletter.

Zac has settled back into school and selected to swim for the school. He swam well in the 50mt Freestyle and Breastroke and their relay team came second. He has already been on a couple of excursions the last one to Rod Laver Pool to watch the swimmers practice for the FINA Championships. As we went to the Australian Open in January, it was good for him to see the Arena being used in a different manner. He recently attended the Grand Prix and Airshow with his dad. He didn't give us a lot of information except that it was loud, but COOL.

My exciting news is I'm having golf lessons, I am enjoying them and hope to have a game with Max in the school holidays.

Rick's little girl Maddison is again on a hospital waiting list. You may remember she had heart surgery in May2005 and a hip operation last Oct. When she went for her check up after the hip op, they found that her other hip is now also affected. (Perthes disease) So sometime in the next three months she'll be back in hospital and again six weeks in a wheelchair. She certainly is a little trooper.

We will all be off camping to Saltwater Creek (near Eden NSW) for the school holidays (7/4 to14/4). So with Alex back, our next newsletter should be full of lots of detail and photos.

Holiday in Merimbula

Barb and Paul had a holiday in Merimbula recently with Paul’s son’s family - Andrew, Sophie and baby Joshua.

We got some great shots of Joshua at his first experience of the beach. Click here it see more.

Andrew and Sophie have announced that they are pregnant with their second child. Joshua will have a little brother or sister in September this year!

Andrew, Sophie and Lisa joined in with the Collins family at the get together on March 25th! See pictures in the Social Events section but here are some more pictures of Josh enjoying a paddle in the water and climbing the stairs with grandpa!

Lisa has moved into her new unit in Carnegie and had a house warming lunch there on Sunday 1st April for her family.

Barbara is ramping up her fitness regime of Pump and Combat classes, working out in the gym and walking, with BOXING classes. Although it seems to be a losing the battle, she is determined to lose the ‘nana’ arms – but is also enjoying the extra cardio vascular component that comes with boxing.

She has also decided to fully retire at the end of the year, a little over 12 months ahead of the ‘plan’. She and Paul are already looking forward to a 2 week cruise in January next year and lots of other travel plans that won’t have to fit around her part time work. Yee Haaaaaaa!

Barb went to the same St Joseph’s reunion as Judi has reported in her news. She attended the school as both a student, AND taught there for two years in the early 70s. She met one former Prep student who remembered lots of interesting things from her year with Barb. First thought on entering the hall was “OMG what are all these OLD people doing here?” until the reality hit that she is that age now too. Those of you who are 50 or older will confirm that we feel a lot younger on the inside than we really are  - so it’s a bit of a shock when confronted with reality.

Maths answers

Are you/were you good at advanced maths? Some people aren’t. I wouldn’t be able to answer any of these maths questions – but I love these answers that some students gave in their actual math tests. The “overall maths vs time graph” is my favourite.

Congratulations this month to ….

ü Cathy and John for surviving their accident

ü Elise on turning 16

ü Max for going learning to drive

ü Wade on getting his first car

ü Darcy on starting uni
ü Mary for learning golf

ü Judi and Renato for staying sane (I think) with all their problems at the moment

ü Maddison for being such a little trouper
